Wow, today was exhausting. We started the day with a tour of the school which was the perfect way to get us all pumped up for the rest of our time here. Some of the staff introduced themselves today and were incredibly kind and welcoming. They all have such ambition in educating and are on the same page in regards to the expectations and goals of the school. All of the buildings are painted blue and white with outdoor hallways, lockers, cubbies, bathrooms, etc. Its so different living in a place where the weather is constant and the outdoors are accessible year round.
Speaking of weather… It. Is. Perfect! It never gets too hot during the day that you want to avoid the outdoors altogether and in the evenings a simple sweater will suffice in the city. Last night, we all took some cervezas y musica to the rooftop of our apartment and sat and watched the city. It may just be my new favorite location in the whole country. Sitting up there is so calm and relaxing yet we have the busy and hectic city to evaluate. We were talking about getting some lawn chairs to leave up there and laughing about planting a garden. We are essentially the only ones who live in the apartment so hopefully our claim of the patio will be a successful one.
After we toured the school this morning, we went to various shops to continue getting supplies for our homes and classrooms. I’m pretty shopped out to say the least. It’s been fun starting from scratch in a new house with money given to us from the school, however. I’ll post photos of our place as soon as we have internet connection. Right now, I am writing on a word document at home each evening, saving it on a jump drive, and then posting it at school when they allow us to use the computers.
All the new hires are getting along great. It’s been such an experience getting to know one another and finding out all the random things we have in common. We’ve all discovered that we’re all a little crazy considering we have some personality trait that makes us want to pack up and move to Guatemala but luckily it’s a kind of crazy that will make for some hilariously good times. I’m already so thankful for these girls.

We all got cell phones today at the mall from a local company. We have pay-as-you-go plans so we will just have to remember to purchase minutes at the gas station each week/month or they won’t work. I’ll keep everyone posted on how the phone thing works but I’m thinking the best option will be for me to call people and have them call me back on skype. I bought skype credit for $10 which I’m pretty sure it allows me to call cell phones internationally for $0.03 a minute. Meh, we’ll figure it out and get back with you.
Missing you all and hoping life is treating you well!
